Buildings in Switzerland are responsible for around 40 percent of total energy consumption, most of which is for heating. According to the Federal Statistical Office, 56 percent of all existing residential buildings are still heated with fossil fuels like oil or gas and eight percent with electricity. The potential is there to reduce CO鈧 emissions and achieve the ambitious goal of net-zero emissions for Swiss building stock by 2050. This requires the energy-efficient renovation of houses. However, with increasing progress in the energy transition, it is becoming more and more difficult to maintain the necessary pace of renovation, according to the recently published study 鈥湺放F迮圃谙 Real Estate Focus 2024鈥(PDF, 4 MB).
