Monocle 24 Radio: Social enterprise after coronavirus
As it becomes clear there will be no swift return to 'business as usual' following the pandemic, how are the Global Visionaries planning for a radically different future in which they can continue to make a positive impact? We recently hosted a roundtable, where four Visionaries discussed this very topic – and Monocle 24 Radio compiled the highlights in the podcast below. Both Sebastian Groh of SOLshare and Kennedy Odede of SHOFCO said the pandemic had revealed the flaws in the systems in Bangladesh and Kenya respectively. You need to keep the lights on in a crisis, was Sebastian's verdict; while Kennedy said that the Kenyan government was now drilling boreholes and building clinics in the slums, which would not have happened without Covid. Anti-waste campaigner and entrepreneur Christina Dean agreed that while it had been "unbelievably challenging" to operate a fashion brand, the pandemic had highlighted the industry's problems and perhaps forced brands to deal with customers' sustainability expectations.
