What time does your alarm go off in the morning?

I like waking up around six to give me time to do some reading. Once my routine is done, I head to work directly or drop off my children at school on the way.

What does your working day look like?

Lately I've been spending around 70 percent of my time on regional leadership items. In other words, helping to ensure an efficient flow of information, fostering a collaborative culture amongst our teams and with our stakeholders. The other 30 percent is spent on the delivery side. That means understanding what deliverables need to be prioritized (and why), how we will deliver those and coordinating the effort. Of course, we are also no stranger to fire drills!

What do you love about your role the most?

Being in IT delivery, working here in equity derivatives is exciting. This is a core activity in investment banking plus you see a lot of interesting things, both on the IT and financial side.

What does your work involve?

I’d like to think that, with the right culture, the right individuals and a clear vision, we can do an excellent job. And that's how I like to see my work - getting the environment right, so that things just flow.

What’s an interesting project you’re currently working on?

Supporting the issuance of new derivative products while also working on implementing the relevant regulations into that process. It's interesting to see the requirements from a regulator's perspective, as well as from a customer's.

What's the most difficult part of your job?

There can be a lot of competing interests, for example, what we need to deliver versus who wants to deliver what. This challenge is made even greater in a highly distributed environment. On a personal basis, I prefer spending time a) looking at technical challenges (e.g. solution architecture of risk systems) or b) working to understand what our solution stack needs are, in order to best support the bank (both today and tomorrow).

What's unique about working here?

I really appreciate working close to the business without having to go through the multiple layers of intermediaries one can often find in other large organizations. We're really delivery focused.

What time do you tend to finish work?

If I need to pick up my children, I leave at five o’clock, otherwise I just make sure I’m home for dinner!

What are your hobbies?

It depends on the period and season, but I try to spend most of my free time with my children. Other than that, I code, hike or play basketball.
